In the past few days, I’ve had multiple students reach out to me with the same question. Their internships weren’t exactly what they were hoping for and they wanted to know what to do next.

1. Give yourself credit! You learned something! I know it can be disappointing when your internship isn’t a perfect fit, but learning what doesn’t work for you is valuable. If you hadn’t hustled and gotten this internship, you wouldn’t have the insights you have now. It may not be what you expected, but you are still absolutely better off for having this internship.
2. Gratitude. Share gratitude with the people you worked with.
3. Refine your ideal job list.
4. Refine your questions to ask in an interview.
5. Get ready for the career fair.
